Episodes 26 x 30 minutes
This difference is in adolescence friends It focused on the social lives of four upper-middle-class children who attended Fielding Mellish Prep, a private high school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Zoe (Selma Blair) was serious, loyal, and a bit of a dreamer; Curly-haired Duncan (David Mosco) was moody and uptight and couldn’t find girls yet; The quiet Jack (Michael Rosenbaum) and the “normal” Jane (Azura Skye) were twins – although he was confident, she was sarcastic and insecure.
Jane and Zoe trusted each other with everything – children, food, clothes, school, etc
The four of them were hanging out at a Greenwich Village café called Café N after school. They were also frequently seen in subway stations around Manhattan, and between scenes, viewers were shown a subway map indicating their movements from home to school to their residence in the Village.
When the show returned for its second season in January 2000, the title was shortened to Zoe…; The traditional subway map scenes are gone, and the events move three years after the first series.
Zoe and her friends – except for Duncan – were now in college, and had all moved out of their family homes. Jane was Zoe’s roommate, and Jack was Duncan’s roommate.
Zoe worked part-time as a hostess at a Shanghai Chinese restaurant where Jane waited tables and Doug, an aspiring playwright, was the waiter. Duncan worked for a company that designed online home pages for businesses.
At the end of February, the men got a luxury apartment at a low rent by working as building supervisors – but it didn’t work out. In the spring, Zoe begins dating Duncan’s boss, Andy (Hamilton Von Watts), and the three dots are removed from the title.
