Space TIM Allen Theatrical sets (interview)
One of the pleasures of watching Network TV is how to shift the show and change as the creative team sees what works and what is otherwise. Less frequent but convincing is also to see how to change the field of the playground and develop, as the house does in the “changing gears” of ABC.
The first show of the ABC series is the most monitored on broadcasting platforms, the “Tim Allen and Dennings Cat” as a father and two daughters in themselves live with her two children. This means heavy play for this classic for all comic theater series: the living room group.
“There is a growth curve,” production designer Stefan Olson told Indiewire. “It is just a huge educational process for characters (and) how the house is like. The house changes with these new characters in it.”
The only thing that changes gradually is what Olson called “the chaos of a comic play.” When you started “transforming the gears”, Matt (Allen) lived alone after the death of his wife. “This is one of the things we talked about, and it will not change anything,” said Olson. They had a kind of lifestyle. They were empty nests. This was a conscious option on the part of everyone, because there was no chaos of the comic play. We had to do some convincing because I think the network sometimes wanted to see it look more comfortable and more invited, and I answer Tim on that, “Children (characters) will attend it.”
The “Transformation of the Gears” was also distinguished by more growing pain than most of the comic play, with the first two centers left when ABC chose the pilot to the series, as well as reformulating another role and removing another. All more complicated problems to solve it from finding the perfect sofa or what art should be hung on the stairs – although this was also practical. In the case of art, the episodes that took several episodes to solve, where viewers with eyes can witness. (Olson said they now landed on one.)
The wide Olson experience in the comic play (including production design “How I met your mother”) stood in a good position in creating worlds inside “Transferring the gears”, from the house of Matt to the repair store. It is worth noting that Olson knows the amount of benefits specified from the depth; From studying on the other side of the visual lobby from the living room to a media room off the kitchen, Matt house feels like a real house.
“This was an early idea that I did, and somewhat went for a while during the operation,” said Olson. “Then we were walking on the groups, we love,” a boy, it would be really good to get it. “So we built again. Directors love to play the depth. It gives them the opportunity to a lot of movement.”
The repair store developed slightly faster as soon as they decided that Matt was reasonably successful (otherwise, how can a family of three can move with him comfortably?). As it happens, they had a source of old cars for the first few rings.
“We are very lucky because Tim is a car man, and he has his own group of amazing vehicles,” Olson said. ((Until now) are Tim cars, and we have a transportation section and a cars consultant. Allen’s involvement is almost surprised. He called the closest character to him in his entire career. And with 30 years of successful comic play behind him, Allen knows something or two about how a half -hour network works.
