China increases APAC cooperation to fight illegal gambling networks

China has announced plans for greater international cooperation to address gambling and illegal fraud online.

China has announced plans to abolish online garbage and defraud communications through law enforcement cooperation with neighboring countries.

This comes in response to the increase in border fraud and fraud that affects Chinese citizens and foreign citizens.

The new efforts were announced at a press conference on Wednesday (February 5), where Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lin Jian, stated that the Chinese government is actively looking to cooperate with the relevant countries, especially in the APAC.

Focusing to address the fraud of modern border communications near the borders of Thailand-Meyanmar.

This sparked the decision to increase cooperation with neighboring countries and develop joint strategies to reduce these criminal networks and protect Chinese citizens abroad.

The definition of China’s priorities for fraud follows a number of prominent accidents, including Save Chinese actor Wang XingHe was kidnapped in Thailand and was transferred to Myanmar, after he was deceived to believe that he would go to the opportunity to act.

Chinese and Thai leaders meet

Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the importance of greater cooperation During a meeting in Beijing With Thai Prime Minister Paitongtarn Shinawatra on Thursday, February 6.

The visit of the Thai leader continues until February 8 and represents the fiftieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between countries.

President Xi called for the expansion of the two countries to deepen mutual confidence to combat the increasing global uncertainty.

The two countries are working on many economic projects, but the main focus on fighting online fraud to ensure the safety of citizens.

Criminal networks

China has developed strict regulations on online gambling in recent years as it seeks to reduce the financial and societal instability that it could cause.

While Chinese citizens, such as Wang Xing, were victims of these illicit operations, there were also many Chinese citizens involved in fraudulent activities throughout the APAC.

An example of this is a Chinese criminal network that operates the Cambodia and Myanmar fraud centers. These networks are often used as job ads to attract victims to work in fraud centers, as they were forced to make fraud over the phone. This was often done through coercion, abuse and human trafficking.

There were reports in 2022 about human trafficking in casinos in Cambodia, forcing individuals to work in brutal and exploitative conditions. Many of these casinos have links to Chinese citizens, which increases pressure on the new strategy across the border that is being implemented this week.

Moreover, in 2020, China used its influence in the region to take strict action against the online gambling rings targeting Chinese nationals. This led to the closure of Cambodia a lot of the online gambling industry.

China also provided a black system in 2020, designed to prevent its citizens from traveling to foreign countries known for illegal gambling plans and fraud.

Since this is still a threat, the government in Beijing hopes to increase the focus on international cooperation to help dismantle these criminal networks.
