The Brutalist Director Brady Corbet Responds to AI Accent Backlash

2025 Golden Globes Winners List: ‘Emilia Perez’, ‘The Brutalist’ and more!

Brady Corbett know backlash can be brutal.

That’s why The brutalist director came to Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones‘ defense after it was revealed that AI tools were used to improve the actors’ Hungarian dialect.

“Adrien and Felicity’s performances are completely their own,” Corbet said in a Jan. 20 statement The Hollywood Reporter. “They worked with a dialect coach for months Tanera Marshall to perfect their accents. Innovative Respeecher technology was used exclusively in editing Hungarian dialogue, specifically to refine certain sounds and letters for accuracy.”

He added that “no English language was changed” by AI technology.

“This was a manual process, done by our sound team and Respeecher in post-production,” Corbet explained of how the Hungarian dialogue was manipulated. “The goal was to preserve the authenticity of the performances of Adrien and Felicity in another language, not to replace or change them and done with the utmost respect for the craft.”
