Creating Sterile, Authentic ER [Interview]

Indiewire: How did you land on this color palette? It is more clear than the peach that stems to my mind when I think about hospitals.

Nina Rossio: And blue, when you think about hospitals on TV. Really, in many ways, it was an option against those options. The option that does not know fear was to do this painting of eggs. It is like 100 shades of white. Create a truly neutral plate more related to actual hospital realism and personal experiences of people. It is a very full and sterile experience. When you were holding conversations with other department heads, were they saying, “What did you do with all these eggs?”

They are very careful carefully, all of these [shades of white]And everyone embraced her. To give her visual strength, I wanted to get these elements that hinted at the architectural details that I saw abroad, we ended up, Aligheny General in Pittsburgh. There are some materials and architectural details that I woven all the time, especially in the heritage spaces in the waiting room and the heritage corridors that are tributaries outside the emergency department. Marble, columns and all these things that I think give the history of the hospital.

I must return to this – when you look at many egg shades, what conversations surrounding the choice of final shades?

Well, we conducted a camera test, [cinematographer] Jojo [Coelho] And I, with a group of very white, knowing the quality of the light we use. For the human eye, it might have not looked wide, but we fell to this one because it was the most satisfying of the widest range of skin colors as well as more satisfactory and complementary to the LED lighting system that we intended to use. So it was a very educated guess, this white color. There are tones of wood and there are tones of gray, yellow and black, which are Pittsburgh colors.

Once you write text programs, did John share any stories that your scheme was affected? Or is it working as a guide to how to get from point A to point b?

I think this was more than how people were transferred from one place to another. They were very related to this idea that you can see [a series of rooms] And that there was no dead end. Since the show was aimed at be loaded from the beginning, it is necessary that there be freedom of movement that kept itself all the time. The continuous movement energy is never banned due to a dead end. So part of it felt successfully, but there is a lot, there are many very specific intentions with the planning of the hospital’s emergency department.

In your research, what are the design rules that remain correct regardless of the emergency room?

There are many very specific intentions with the planning of the hospital’s emergency department. For example, we have immediately isolated behavior rooms when it comes through an ambulance because if there is no unbalanced person, they should be isolated immediately. After that, the full shock rooms will be on a central center width. The idea that the center center has Vista can see him everywhere in the middle region. It has evolved into new systems, into negative pressure rooms, and such things after Covid. Did this affect the medical equipment used?

Not many hospitals have been renewed, so all of these equipment is still relevant. There are old equipment that are still actively related to many facilities. [Our] Shock rooms are fully equipped. Can surgery really be performed here. The experience of being there is absolutely not like to be in a group.
