How to download Kindle Books to your computer

In terms of electronic readers, Kindles are our favorite. These are fast and well -designed machines that put an entire library in your pocket. But from February 26, 2025, Amazon removed the ability of its users to download Kindle Books from computers. You can always download books from your Kindle library, but only on WiFi compatible devices. So what is the big problem?

There are two big problems here. If you want to download books on your Kindle, you will need to do so on a wifi compatible device and many users prefer to leave their device in plane mode. But perhaps more importantly, you will no longer have the possibility of converting your electronic books to PDF.

Kindle books are all in the Amazon owner’s electronic book format of .azw3 files. These files can only be read on Kindle devices, so if you want to read your electronic books on another device – whether it is your laptop, your tablet or a different electronic reading – you must Download and convert them.

If you want to download your Kindle books to your computer or other devices, you have a limited time to do so. Here’s how to do it.

How to convert Kindle books

The conversion of Kindle .azw3 files is more difficult than it should be thanks to DRM, AKA Digital Rights Management, which encrypts electronic books. If you use a converter service like CloudWhen you download your Kindle Book file and try to convert it, you will receive a message that the book is encrypted DRM.

Amazon added DRM Encryption to all its Kindle Book files, which makes it even more difficult to convert it to its files so that you cannot read your Kindle purchases on a Kindle. So, if you want to convert Kindle files, you will need to delete encryption.

The best software for conversion and deletion of encryption is caliber. Most conversion software, including caliber, do not include the deletion of encryption, so you will have to add it as a plugin. These are not from conversion software, so be careful before download. However, if you agree to convert your Kindle books, passionate Reddit users have Detailed instructions On how to do it using the caliber.
