The winner of the Ontario Registered Music Educators’ Association’s largest scholarship this year is Nicole Kolkulka, who received three scholarships totaling $500.

Kukulka won the Newmont Porcupine Scholarship, the Porcupine Music Festival de Musique Scholarship, and the Northern Harmony Singers Vocal Scholarship, Level 7, in recognition of her dedication and talent to classical vocal technique and repertoire.
Students who achieve the highest scores on conservatory performance exams with a minimum of 80 per cent are awarded an Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association (ORMTA) scholarship each year ranging from $100 to $200, some students receive more than one, depending on their qualifications. . Conservatory grade level.
Students use it for lessons, sheet music, or to cover the cost of a new or upgraded instrument.
“One of our past winners is Katie Kirkpatrick, who was a featured guest soloist with the Timmins Symphony Orchestra in the October 2024 symphony concert,” said flute instructor Audrey Jane Wells.

“Katie took flute lessons with me and had previously received an ORMTA scholarship which helped pay for the lessons. She pursued music at university and is now working on her Masters of Music at the University of Toronto.
The scholarships were presented at ORMTA’s annual Christmas Gala held on December 13, 2024 at Timmins Pentecostal Church.
The ceremony included Christmas music performed by Timmins branch teachers, as well as performances by the scholarship winners.
Scholarships are donated annually by individuals and local businesses.

Charlotte Nichols, winner of the Newmont Porcupine Scholarship, Porcupine Music Festival Scholarship, and Audrey Jane Wells Flute Scholarship, level 6.

Madeleine Charbonneau, recipient of the Fasciano Music Studio Scholarship, exams in two disciplines with a minimum of 80 percent on both exams.
Evan Nichols, winner of the Northern Harmony Scholarship for Accompaniment Singers.
The goal of ORMTA is to encourage and provide the highest possible level of music education and to promote high standards of music in every community.
ORMTA is a provincial, non-profit organization run by a volunteer board and made up of over 1,100 registered music teachers and related members across Ontario.
It is affiliated with the national association, Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations.
