Be selective about acting jobs

In order to spend more time with his loved ones, Ryan does not take every role that is offered to him. In fact, he is more selective these days and tends to shy away from certain performances.

“I don’t really take on roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,” he continued WSJ. Journal. “This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel what will be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them first with our family in mind.

Ryan suspects this shift began with his 2016 film La La Land.

“It was just like, Oh, this is going to be fun for them, too, because even though they don’t get on set, every day we practice piano or we dance or we sing,” he added before talking about how his children a factor were in him as Ken in 2023’s Barbie. “Her interest in Barbie and her lack of interest in Ken was an inspiration. I thought they were already making little videos about their Barbies on the iPad when it happened, so the fact that I went to work to make one to make, we just felt that we were together.
