Jay-Z’s lawyer warned by judge over ‘inappropriate’ tactics in teen rape case

Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl alongside P-Diddy after the MTV Music Awards in 2000.

The woman involved, who New York Judge Analisa Torres said could remain anonymous for now, first filed a lawsuit against P-Diddy (real name Sean Coombs) in October through her attorney , Tony Buzbee.

The lawsuit was then amended this month to include Carter’s name. He continues to proclaim his innocence.

Following the revelations, Jay-Z’s legal team fought to dismiss the lawsuit and filed several motions targeting Mr. Buzbee.

Jay-Z also accused the lawyer of “blackmail,” which he said on social media made him want to report Mr. Buzbee for fraud instead of settling the case.

“This incident didn’t happen and yet he filed it in court and increased his efforts in the press,” the rapper said.

“True justice is coming. We fight BY victory, not FOR victory. It was over before it even started. This 1-800 lawyer doesn’t realize it yet, but soon.

The New York judge in the case has since criticized the artist’s legal team for targeting Mr. Buzbee, and warned them against “inflammatory remarks and ad hominem attacks.”

“Since Carter’s attorney first appeared in this case 17 days ago, he has submitted a litany of letters and motions attempting to impeach the reputation of the plaintiff’s attorney. [Buzbee]“, she said.

Ms. Torres added the “relentless filing of combative petitions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks.” [on Buzbee] is inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client. The Court will not speed up the legal process just because lawyers demand it.

The judge’s remarks came shortly after Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, requested that the case against his client be dismissed after alleging inconsistencies in the Alabama woman’s statement.

He cited an NBC News report in which he said the accuser had admitted to “inconsistencies” in her allegations.

Judge Torres rejected the requests for dismissal.

This week, the judge also confirmed that the Alabama woman – who currently goes by the name Jane Doe – can remain anonymous, but that could change as the case moves forward.

The litigation is part of a wave of sexual assault cases against Coombs, who is currently awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The music mogul, who often partied with many Hollywood stars, maintains his innocence.
