Race Brook Lodge: A immortal haven for music, art and society

Stagecoach Tavern returns to the bottom of the mountain road in Sheffield, Massachusetts, to the middle of the eighteenth century, and provides high food in a charming environment. It also serves as the gate in the Book Lodge race, which houses unique spaces for entertainment, housing and wellness.

Outdoor intimate gathering areas are lit with chains of lights. Guests who come to spend the weekend and attend concerts and retreats in the middle of the century can be rented.

This magic vision stems from David Rothstein’s mind, who bought the property in cutting between 1990 and 2000, and it is a continuation of his idea to create a place where people similar to thinking can gather to enjoy cultural events in an ideal environment.

Before obtaining the BROK Lodge, the 90 -year -old Rothstein, managed by Music Inn in Lenox, Massachusetts, the place of the outdoor music in Berkesheires during the 1970s, who bought him with his ex -wife, Nancy Fitzpatrick, whose family had Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge.

At its peak from 1970 to 1979, the Music Inn A WHO hotel appeared from the iconic artists in the afternoon such as Ike & Tina Turner, BB King, James Taylor, Muddy Waters, The Byrds, Ravi Shankar, Joan Baez, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, The Eagles, Maytals and Allman Brothers.

“Music Inn was the last anti -culture site, which developed as a result of the development of pioneering jazz as the first integrated music species in the end the way for rock and roll,” said Rothstein.

This date goes deeper. Before the Music Inn Hotel, the buildings were known as Berkshire Music Barn, and was distinguished by Princess such as Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, Mahalaia Jackson, Count Basie, Duke Elington, Dave Brubeck, theological Monk and Modern Jazz Quartet. The place of residence also appeared at Linux Jazz School, Linux Art Center, Hall House, and Riot Ally Memorial Great Riot.

As a student of the modernist architect Louis Khan, Rothstein absorbed Khan’s ideas about the “open frame” or space without barriers. It is a concept that he used in The Music Inn, which bears in Race Brook.

Alex Harvey, programmer for music in the Brock race, remembers how he came to hack with Thomas Droudge, Sayed Che Gong, and noticed Luis Khan’s poster on the wall. He spent in the morning and afternoon talking to Rothstein about art, performance and society in a way that he dreamed of for a long time.

Harvey said: “When I saw the poster, I asked David about it.

Harvey also met with the current owner, Casey Fitzpatrick – Ibn David and Nancy – and hit the two, realizing that they participated in a common interest in global music. Armed with the deep Rolodex, thanks to his many years of performance and ethnic world, Harvey soon began programming the shows in Race Brook.

When booking, Harvey is looking for artists who can provide something that goes beyond typical performance.

“We had a meter, and it is one of the most single lyrics.” Harvey said. “With their energy, they change the weather in the room. It is a sharing feeling. I liked to read online reactions; was it a concert or rituals? That’s what matters to us.”

He added: “We have beausoleil coming on April 5. When they start playing, you feel that you were transferred to Hoch’s house in Eunice, Louisiana. They create a feeling of place, and this is what really raises me.”

There are regularly scheduled software, such as Jazz Brunches every Sunday, and in Times Race Brook Lodge open to other groups that book shows like “Monous Spring Weekender” at the Dj’d House party produced by EDO MORE.

Ideally, Harvey wrote on the completely overwhelming weekends with music and workshops and enjoy spaces, whether walking long distances in nearby tracks or inside the barns.

“One of my favorites is the weekend, Dia de Los Muiros, which has an open microphone for the dead,” said Harvey. “It is art as a form of medicine and healing. It is a type of Brooklyn Academy of Music that meets Esselin.”
