Billy Ray quietly engaged to Australian singer Fire rosewho is 27 years younger, in August 2022, but waited to confirm the news until November.

“Growing up in Australia, my love for music was overriding everything,” Firerose told me People. “I’ve known his music since forever.”

What started as a friendship became more during the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Suddenly, the life I’ve always known as a touring artist no longer existed,” said Billy Ray. “A moment of so much change. And at the same time, Firerose, who had been such a light of positivity, such a best friend. And when we started sharing the music, it just evolved into more, like musical soulmates , to soulmates, happy, pure love that for me, I didn’t know that could exist.”
