Ex-Bermuda Music Teacher On Hit UK TV Show

A FORMER Bermuda School of Music band has appeared on the UK’s most-watched TV show on Christmas Day.
Zac Rodwell, 36, taught piano at the Bermuda School of Music at the Berklee Cultural Center from 2011 to 2014 before returning to his native London, England, where he teaches primary school.
Mr. Rodwell’s band, the Stratos, gained national attention when their performance of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know was featured in a pivotal wedding scene during the final episode of Gavin and Stacey, one of Britain’s most beloved sitcoms.
The BBC program attracted an impressive 12.5 million viewers.
In an interview with Metro, the three-piece band shared how their song ended up on the hit show.
“Our band manager received an email in September from someone at the BBC, simply asking if we would be willing to let one of our songs be featured on a BBC comedy programme,” they said.
“We had no idea what that was. We were like, ‘Oh, cool.’ BBC, that would be fun!”
“We were excited about it, but when we found out it was on Gavin and Stacey, we said, ‘Oh, this is really cool.’
“Even while we were watching the show, we didn’t know at what point we were going to be shown, or how much exposure we were going to be shown, or anything like that.”
The band speculated that the show’s producers may have discovered their music on Spotify, where Stratus boasts more than 35,000 monthly listeners.
“It’s a pretty good advert for a wedding band, given that a lot of the other music only played for five or six seconds,” they said.
“We’ll be recording again in February, so it’s a good opportunity to use this as publicity to give it a boost.
“We started out as a wedding band of sorts; Those were the first few gigs we did.
“We’ve done a few concerts here and there, but we’re hoping there will be a lot of people who would like the band that featured Gavin and Stacey to play down the aisle.”
