“Eephus” in it for the love of the game

Play the ball! Carson Lund is a tribute to the romance and romance of America’s hobby.

In “Eephus”, a group of middle -aged men gather to play a last match on their hometown of the baseball before giving way to a new school.

This is all. There is nothing fancy about this comic drama, nothing too much. It is an authentic and not full of baseball romance, traditions, biography and those who divide his rituals, and he lives in the glove of prominent fishermen.

In Douglas, Massachusetts, the soldier’s field is on its way out, and Riverbods face the Adler team’s paint for the last time before the field, like a lot of baseball, becomes a history.

There is nothing at stake, no league championship, no cup. There is one custom fans, Franny (Cliff Blake), which tracks balls and strikes on the grades card in the old school. Otherwise, it’s just a group of players playing for something more than the game’s love.

The characters, a group of actors who are most likely to know them (Keith William Richards, Frederick Weizmann, and Benser Boston Red Sucus former Bell, have life at home, but we do not learn a lot about her. Also, any of them is well defined enough to stand out. They are only there to use their Almoravids and hang out, and they may drink a beer and fire some fireworks after the ninth half.

They are not great athletes, but they are a kind of players who grew up playing the baseball and still enjoying the team sports. The uniform is a kind of conformity, but not always. Some players have a beer courage, some are in good condition. None of them is good running. But they are a kind of players who are still ready to dive second while stealing a base.

Co -Caron Lunder, who was working from a scenario he wrote with Nate Fischer and Michael Basta, comes out of his way to avoid sports filmmakers. There are no lights out Out Home Run (A La “Natural”) or a sexual side story (A “Bull Durham)) or Hot Shot Wildman Pitcher (la” major league “). Instead, he was devoted to the rhythms and hair of baseball, informal conversations between his colleagues, and the calm beauty of cleaning the home painting between the fighters.

Lund fills the gaps between the roles with quotes of baseball legends including Rickey Henderson, Babe Ruth and Yogi Berra. The ghosts of the game are looming on the horizon on “Eephus”, which was named after the stadium, known to hunt the fighters.

Like children who stay very late in the dark, the game lasts for a long time. This is one of the things related to baseball in the summer, you can only play as long as you can still see the ball. But Lund is similar to his group of players: he does not want to give up. Everyone who plays the game understands the feeling.
