Cruel Commerce Below is scheduled to open in the spring. The 4,000-square-foot space will be located on the Rockefeller Center arena level at 47th and 50th Streets. The new store will feature new and used vinyl records, new and used CDs, artist merchandise, audio equipment, Blu-rays, and more. It will also host store events and shows for all segments.

In a press release, Stephen Godefroy, co-owner of Cruel Trading, stated:

We’re very excited to open The Rough Trading Below this spring, helping us further meet the tremendous demand from music fans across the borough of Five and beyond. Clearly, the ruthless ethos of commerce—to narrow the gap between artist and audience—has struck a tremendous chord, here in New York. Creating a bigger mecca for music fans is an exciting prospect, especially for intimate live events, where the world’s hottest artists perform at the store to acknowledge the purchase of their new album. Creating a counterculture focus in downtown Manhattan has fortunately proven to be a hugely successful move, and we look forward to creating a stronger creative community as the year progresses.
