AFENIFERE supports Kalu, says declaring the president of Abiola for a long time late

The socio-political organization Pan-Yoruba, Afenifère, said on Tuesday, declaring the deceased winner of June 12, 1993 canceled, presidential election, chief MKO Abiola, because the president after the Hume had been expected for a long time.

The National Secretary of Adeniferous Advertising, Judge Faloye, said this in an interview with The Punch, making an appeal earlier Tuesday by Senator Orji Kalu of the state of Abia.

“We support the proposal. We actually discussed and came to the same resolution at our monthly meeting held on Tuesday.

“(The former president Muhammadu) Buhari had already awarded to Abiola a GCFR prize (large commander of the Order of the Federal Republic), which is intended only for presidents. If Tinubu could go further, it would be a welcome rectification of a historical political injustice, “said Chieftain Afenifère.

Earlier Tuesday in Abuja, Kalu, representing the Senate District of Abia North, called President Bola Tinubu to declare the president of Abiola Nigeria posthumously, as a mark of honor to the winner of June 12, 1933, presidential election.

Kalu’s call comes a few days after the former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, admitted that Abiola had won the 1999 presidential election, which was deemed the most free in the history of Nigeria.

Babangida admitted last week during the launch of his autobiography entitled “A Journey in Service”, 32 years after the cancellation of the elections.

On June 12, 2018, the president of Nigeria immediately stepped, Muhammadu Buhari, conferred the highest distinction, the great commander of the Federal Republic, at the late Abiola, a decision applauded by pro-democracy defenders around the world.

While addressing journalists from the National Assembly complex, Kalu, former Abia State of the National Assembly, said that Abiola’s feat should not be sent back to the bin of history on Tinuba and called President Tinubu to act when his predecessors failed.

He said, “Yes, Abiola won the elections. And I would say that President Tinubu should declare him posthumously. »»

Kalu welcomed the actions of former President Buhari for giving a posthumous national honor on Abiola, but stressed that an additional recognition was necessary.

“Since Abiola won, her photo should be placed among the former presidents of Nigeria. I congratulate the former President Buhari for having done a national honor to him, but I also call on President Tinubu to officially recognize him and place his image where he belongs. This would help help his family. »»

By giving his opinion on the Memoirs of Babangida published last week, Kalu instructed the ex-military tactician to find a second volume, noting that a single volume was not enough to tell the story of Babangida.

“I look forward to the second edition of the Babangida book because the first did not reveal all the realities. I was present at the events of June 12 and I know what happened. Babangida is expected to call the names of officials of the election declaration, “said Kalu.

He rejected the ethnic label attributed to the 1996 coup, led by the late Major Kaduna Nzeogwu, saying: “The coup in question was not an IGBO coup; It was a Nigerian coup, executed by the army. »»

In what appeared his approval from Tinubu for a new four -year term in the next electoral cycle, Kalu said: “Yes, Aswaju will win in 2027. Aswaju should continue.”

He also argued that history had shown that even the presidents accused of non-performance returned for a second term, urging Nigerians to remain patient with the Tinubu reform agenda.

Expressing confidence in the chances of Tinubu, Senator Kalu said: “We use Nigerians to be patient with the reform process. We do not seek another presidential candidate outside our party. We are fully aligned with our democratic principles and we support the president in office.

“The good news is that we will win again in 2027. The president will return, and the Nigerians celebrate with us. It is inevitable.

Meanwhile, a human rights activist, Mashood Erubami, also called on President Tinubu to officially recognize Abiola as the legitimate winner of the presidential election of June 12, 1993 and to ensure that the portrait of Abiola is now exposed alongside the former presidents in government offices.

In a Tuesday statement, Erubami stressed the urgency of this recognition, citing the recent admission of Babangida according to which he had wrongly canceled the elections of June 12.

“The current president, having heard directly the man who canceled the elections of June 12 – who has now admitted publicly to subversion – should be embraced to declare chief MKO Abiola as the legitimate and worldwide winner of the election,” said Erubami.

“His portrait should subsequently be appropriately placed among those of former presidents in the offices of the national and national government, testifying to his victory and the unshakable Nigerians for the cancellation of the elections.”
