I discovered Cathy Yardley’s romantic novels this winter. And then I walked in most of his background list in a few weeks. His contemporary novels have an ideal relationship of emotion. His characters have deep, interesting and often winding stories. But they also have passions and a sense of humor that come to life on the page. And his jokes – do not throw me on how Good Cathy Yardley writes jokes. His love stories are diverse, often geek and always passionate. In addition, several of his novels present average age characters, which I like. Among his many wonderful romantic novels, one of them stood out like my favorite (so far).

Make me a favor by Cathy Yardley
Willa is a widow and former ghost editor of cooking book. She moves to an isolated island of the northwest Pacific when she inherits a beautiful house, but slightly decrepit, of her dead aunt. She hopes that it will be the new start she will need to restart her career and her life after years of care to her husband. Hudson is his neighboring neighbor and his handyman who agrees to help him repair the house. He lives on a farm and has two young adult children, aging parents and a whole brood of animals. He abandoned a lot to raise his children as a single father. But now that they are starting to grow, he hopes to invest more in his personal and professional passions.
These characters are so nicely and completely drawn. And they are not perfect for each other. It’s time for them to meet. They are both so kind and generous with each other. The constituent elements of their relationship are acts of service: they fall in love with Hudson helping to renovate the house of Willa and Willa testing recipes for his kitchen book on Hudson and his family.
Of course, there are obstacles, otherwise there would not be really a story. Hudson is torn between trying to become more an entrepreneur and continue his longtime love of the clock. Willa is not sure of her ability to support ghosts, and therefore she does not know if she can stay on the island. They have an escape artist, mischievous goats, surprised skips, a difficult Instagram chief, children of young adults on young adults, parents and bodies occupied in town, and more to overcome in the journey to their happy ending.
But like many big books and all the big romances, you root the two characters in the whole story.
