In July 1946, 28 -year -old Hirby Nichols visited the 30 -year -old Monk’s apartment. Nichols was there on Street 63 to meet Monk with the Black Entertainment Periodic Rhythm: Music and Music, a visit that crowned Bonk performing “Ruby, my dear” on the Piano Klein, written by Nichols, “one of the greatest pleasures that I listened to to jazz music.
