New book on Biden by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson reports a “ concealment ” on his decline

The day after Donald Trump won the 2024 elections, the anchor of CNN Jake Tapper and the correspondent Axios Alex Thompson decided to co-author a book on what had led the Democratic Party to defeat, emphasizing former President Joe Biden.

Journalists deeply of origin have found what they call a “concealment” of the “serious decline” of the former president.

The resulting book, entitled “Original Sin: President Biden of the decline, his concealment and his disastrous choice to run again”, released on May 20.

The publisher of the book, Penguin Press, announced the project on Wednesday.

“What you will learn made that President Biden’s decision to present himself to the re -election seems to be shocking narcissistic, self -lighting and reckless – a desperate bet that has gave up – and part of a wider act of prolonged public deception which has few precedents,” said Penguin in a press release.

Biden, “his family and his superior assistants were so convinced that he could again beat Trump, they lied to themselves, allies and the public on his state and his limits,” said the press release.

“Toni Morrison said one day” if there is a book you want to read, but it has not yet been written, then you have to write it “,” said Jake Tapper in a statement. “This is what inspired this book: we wanted to know more about what we all came. Over 200 interviews later, Alex and I have a much better idea. And soon you will all do it too.

Tapper had a unique point of view as co-model of the CNN debate in June 2024 which led Biden to abandon the presidential race a few weeks later.

Tapping and Thompson write in the book that “what the world saw in Joe Biden and the only debate was not an anomaly – it was not a cold, it was not someone who was under or overpassed, it was not someone who was just a little tired. It was the natural result of a man of eighty and a year old whose faculties have been decreasing for years. »»

“Biden, his family and his team left their personal interest and their fear of another term Trump justify trying to put an old man sometimes adapted to the oval office for four more years,” write the authors. “What was the extent of this one?” Was it concealment? Was it a plot? We will let the facts speak for themselves. »»

The rest of the book is subject to a strict embargo, as is often the case with the coming outings that contain large scoops.

“Original Sin” is one of the many books to come concerning the 2024 elections. During the four years of Mandate of Biden, there was a general impression among the publishers and the publishers that the public of purchasing books had little appetite for books on Biden – in bright contrast with the hunger of books on all that concerns Trump.

Thompson, who is also a CNN contributor, had in fact a prior book agreement to write on the presidency of Biden, and his original publisher, Simon & Schuster, withdrew the contract in 2023. Politico called him “an additional reflection of the soft market for books” on Biden.

But the perceptions of the book industry changed after Biden abandoned the race and approved the former vice-president Kamala Harris, and even more after Harris lost against Trump.

Tapper and Thompson decided to zoom in on what they nicknamed “Original Sin” by Biden – his decision to run for a second term.

“The irony is biting: in the name of the defeat of what they called an existential threat to democracy, Biden and his inner circle assured it, by throwing its implicit promise to serve for a single term, denying the existence of health problems that the nation has been watching for years, containing the Democrats to defeat,” said the publisher in promotional material for the book. “The decision to run again, the original sin of this president led to a denial and gas lighting campaign, leading directly to the return of Donald Trump to power and to everything that happened accordingly.”
