Dean Wareham Announces New Album That’s the Price of Loving Me, Shares Video for New Song: Watch

Dean Wareham She announced a new album. This is the price of my love It will be released on March 28 via parking. The 10-song LP reunites Wareham with his former lover Galaxy 500 producer Kramer, marking their first collaboration in 34 years, following the indie band’s last album in the 1990s. This is our music. Ahead of his new record, Wareham shared the lead single, “You Were the Ones I Had to Betray,” as well as a cover of Lake Selfie-Directed music video co-starring Wareham’s wife and bandmate Britta Phillips. Wareham has also announced a series of tour dates taking place in April and May. Find it all below.

This is the price of my love It is the fourth solo album by Wareham, who also plays in bands Luna and Dean and Britta. Wareham cut the LP in six days in Los Angeles’ Eagle Rock neighborhood, where Kramer, Phillips, Anthony LaMarca, drummer Roger Brogan, and cellist Gabe Noel gathered to contribute songs.

“Kramer insisted that I play everyone “The guitars on this record,” Wareham said in press materials. “And we worked quickly. Two takes more treasure than twenty, Kramer believed, and the song always seemed to be drawn up in his head instantly.”

“34 years is a long time,” Kramer added. But I love Dean, so it was worth the wait. Being back in the studio with him again felt like we had never been apart. When the work was finished, I felt like it couldn’t have been better. There was a “full circle” air around us that lingers. I am grateful for the invitation to re-enter, and for the emotional opportunities that truly deep and personal collaboration can provide. It’s extremely rare, and I’d be surprised if I felt anything like this again.

“I wrote this at the last minute, thinking about how love and friendship actually seem to call for betrayal,” Wareham explained on lead single “You’re the Ones I Had to Betray.” “I wasn’t really anticipating where the song would end up musically. It shifted when Gabe added Noel arranging cello in the studio.

Wareham’s last studio album, I have nothing to say to the mayor of Los Angelesreleased in 2021, although he released a holiday album with Phillips and Sonic Boom in 2024 titled Peace be upon us. Last year also saw the release of Uncollected Noise New York, 88-90a collection of unreleased Galaxie 500 music.
