BBC announces further casting for new series ‘Amandaland’

BBC Comedy has announced the star-studded cast for the new series Amandaland, a spin-off of the hit series Country.
As previously confirmed, Amandaland will star Lucy Punch as Amanda, Joanna Lumley as Felicity and Philippa Dunne as Anne. They will be joined by Samuel Anderson (Gavin and Stacey) as Mal, Siobhan McSweeney (Girls of Derry) as Della, Rochenda Sandall (Service exercise) like Fi, Ekow Quartey (By trying) like JJ and Peter Serafinowicz (The Gentlemen) like Johannes.
Amandaland focuses on Amanda’s character, as she tries to navigate her new life after divorce, which includes downsizing and moving to South Harlesden, or as the real estate agent calls it SoHa (definitely not the area around Wormwood Scrubs Prison).
In the six-part series, Amanda also looks at teenage education, tackling issues such as teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and environmental anxiety. Mix in an unhealthy co-dependent relationship with his mother Felicity and the support of his servant Anne, and we have a great Hygge Tygge time.
Tanya Qureshi, Head of Comedy at the BBC, said: “We can’t wait for audiences to experience Amanda’s new chapter, brought to life by such a talented cast and a wonderfully sharp ensemble of characters. It’s going to be a real treat.
Produced by Merman, Amandaland is created by Sharon Horgan (Bad sisters, disaster), Holly Walsh (Homeland, The Other, Dead Boss), Hélène Serafinowicz (Homeland, Nova Jones), and Barunka O’Shaughnessy (Breeders, Try, Homeland). It is written by Holly Walsh, Helen Serafinowicz, Barunka O’Shaughnessy and Laurence Rickard (Ghosts there).
Sharon Horgan, co-founder of Merman, said: “I was really sad to have to say goodbye to Country. There is such a fondness for this series and these characters. So it was a real pleasure to be able to pick up the later adventures of Amanda and Anne, not to mention Felicity. Lucy, Phillipa and Joanna are on top form in these roles and are joined by an incredibly funny and talented new cast. I look forward to showcasing the upcoming challenges of parenthood and the very special type of friendship that the school gates bring.
Amandaland comes to BBC One and iPlayer in February.
