Chappell Roan is crowned BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2025

After a phenomenal 2024, “HOT TO GO!” » Superstar Chappell Roan has been named Sound of 2025 by BBC Radio 1 – the station’s annual poll aimed at identifying music’s biggest rising stars.
Beating out Ezra Collective, Barry Can’t Swim, Myles Smith and English Teacher, Chappell was named the winner by a panel of more than 180 musicians and experts, including Sir Elton John, Dua Lipa and Sam Smith, Sound of 2014 winner.
This year, the rules for the award were relaxed to recognize the challenges of achieving crossover success in the streaming era. To qualify, artists could have no more than two UK top 10 albums or two UK top 10 singles as of September 30, 2024.
Jack Saunders, who hosts Radio 1’s New Music, said: “No one deserves this accolade more than Chappell Roan. She was the most exciting artist of the last 12 months and now she’s ready to be the artist of the next 12 months.

Chappell follows in the footsteps of artists including AdeleSigrid, Years and Years, Celeste, Florence and the Machine, Jessie J, MIKA, Ellie Goulding, HAIM, The Last Supper and FLO.
The new accolade caps a sensational 12 months for Chappell, real name Kayleigh Amstutz. The singer-songwriter reached stratospheric new heights last year following the worldwide success of her singles “HOT TO GO!”, “Pink Pony Club” and “Good Luck, Babe!”. She also topped the UK Albums Chart with her release, The Rise and Fall of the Princess of the Midwest.
There is no doubt that Chappell Roan will continue to go from strength to strength throughout 2025. She already has a string of festival headlining performances in the pipeline, including Primavera Sound and the Reading & Leeds festival. Additionally, she is nominated for six Grammy Awardsincluding Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Record of the Year.
